![]() Resource Cost Reduction’s effect on the game might have been more subtle. ![]() In general skills that add different sources of damage, rather than percentually increasing your spammable skills, have become much more useful and powerful thanks to CDR. Cooldown Reduction has reinvigorated other abilities like Explosive Blast, Overpower, Seven Sided Strike and many more. While those abilities are still hugely popular, it is mainly because of their past glories (and the fact that their increases are easy to see). Things like Magic Weapon, Energy Armor – Pinpoint Barrier, Familiar – Sparkflint, Battle Rage, and others like them quickly took place at the top of the foodchain. ![]() When it came to damage output, skills that passively increased the damage of your spammable abilities were king. Nor, were they as useful the skills that provided buffs to your damage skill of choice. Thus, skills with a long Cooldown weren’t as useful as those which you could spam. Before Cooldown Reduction came into play, most players were stacking as much Attack Speed as humanely possible. Though CDR might have been a staple in other games like Smite and League of Legends, adding it to Diablo was one of the best moves they could have come up with. Let us analyze both of these godly stats separately. The concept design behind CDR and RCR is downright genius, and it’s something that deserves a lenghty explanation. The reign of the Trifecta effectively ended at the moment that 2.0.1 hit the live servers. This addition might have single handedly removed Increased Attack Speed (IAS) from the top 3 podium. Along with the elemental reworking of skills, Cooldown Reduction (CDR) and Resource Cost Reduction (RCR) opened countless possibilities for builds that would have never been viable otherwise. Regardless, it might have had more impact on Diablo 3’s build diversity than anything else that has been implemented thus far.
